Ricky Lewis was raised in New England, got lost on Long Island, and found himself in Manhattan before setting up shop in Brooklyn where he now resides.
Lewis cut his teeth in several bands (Dear Lions, The Wools) until spending the last year stockpiling songs in private and honing his craft as a writer. After sending GarageBand demos to various musical friends, he enlisted fellow songwriter Patrick Bower to record him performing his songs live, the way they were written, sung over stark and expressive guitar playing. Throughout Spring 2013 the pair recorded at Bower's homemade setup in the basement of his apartment. There they added subtle, intricate layers to the live performances they captured.
The 4 songs selected from these sessions comprise Ricky's first solo effort, Serious Mistress EP. At times it recalls the dark pop sensibilities of Space Oddity-era David Bowie, at others the stoner-Americana of Neil Young. The lyrics offer unique reflections on youthful indulgence, lost friends, and love versus what we're sold it should be, while pondering what it means to be an artist in an increasingly desensitized, over-saturated and swiftly evolving culture.
